With the help of our friends Paola and Pablo in YWAM SJ, we hosted our first missions team in June.  You can read all about it here (and see some fun pics of our family in action!)  Our friends from Visalia, California came down to help and serve.  We had a great time!  Click here to read more:

Lost and Found!  Pura Vida

My prayer this morning

July 15, 2010
Praying this morning for unity among
Christians and churches in Jaco

There is a place of commanded blessing

Where brethren in unity dwell

A place where anointing oil is flowing

Where we live as one

You have called us to be a body

You have called us as friends

Joined together in the bond of the Spirit

Unto the end

Father we join with the prayer of Jesus

As You are so let us be one

Joined together in unity and purpose

All for the love of Your Son

La Vida de Jaco

July 13, 2010

This is my friend, Jisena.  She is my neighbor’s sister so I got to know her that way.  When she was looking for work I asked if she could help me one day a week to do some of the dirty work cleaning around the house.  So she’s been coming and helping me on Tuesdays.  She also comes by other times throughout the week just to say hi and hold Koa, “Mi amor!” she says so excitedly every time she sees him.  She’s come to church with me and the beach and we’ve shared several meals together.  She’s the one I called when my boys were sick in the night and I needed someone to go to the clinic with me.  She’s that kind of friend.  I enjoy her so much.  Today she came in and asked me if I thought it would be ok if she went and worked at the “Beatle Bar.”  This is the notorious bar in town for prostitution.  It’s an easy way to earn lots of money fast.  And that’s what Jisena needs right now.  She has two children in Nicaragua living with her mom.  She came to Costa Rica to find work and send money home to her children.  She just lost two jobs and cannot even pay her rent or electricity, let alone support her mom and children in Nicaragua.  She needs money fast and Beatle Bar will surely do the trick.  Her sister, who previously worked there is encouraging her to do it.

So how do I respond in this situation? God promises again and again throughout the scriptures to be our Provider.  Our Father.  Our Husband.  Our Friend.  He is our everything.  I believe it and I’ve based my life on that belief.  I believe it’s also true for Jisena and I believe He has much better things for her life.  Things she can’t even imagine.  If her eyes could just be lifted out of her troubles and out of her sorrows to see the life in Christ that is hers.

We sat down today and I shared some scriptures with her and prayed with her.  This is one scripture I shared that I love.  It’s Psalm 34

I will extol the LORD at all times;
his praise will always be on my lips.

2 My soul will boast in the LORD;
let the afflicted hear and rejoice.

3 Glorify the LORD with me;
let us exalt his name together.

4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.

5 Those who look to him are radiant;
their faces are never covered with shame.

6 This poor man called, and the LORD heard him;
he saved him out of all his troubles.

7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him,
and he delivers them.

8 Taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

9 Fear the LORD, you his saints,
for those who fear him lack nothing.

10 The lions may grow weak and hungry,
but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.

11 Come, my children, listen to me;
I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

12 Whoever of you loves life
and desires to see many good days,

13 keep your tongue from evil
and your lips from speaking lies.

14 Turn from evil and do good;
seek peace and pursue it.

15 The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their cry;

16 the face of the LORD is against those who do evil,
to cut off the memory of them from the earth.

17 The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them;
he delivers them from all their troubles.

18 The LORD is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

19 A righteous man may have many troubles,
but the LORD delivers him from them all;

20 he protects all his bones,
not one of them will be broken.

21 Evil will slay the wicked;
the foes of the righteous will be condemned.

22 The LORD redeems his servants;
no one will be condemned who takes refuge in him.

Pray with me today for Jisena.  Pray with  me all the young women working in Beatle Bar tonight.  Pray that they will find another way, that they will find a way out.
