CRS

We are in the process of planning the second children at risk school in Costa Rica which will start January 2010.  I am really excited to lead another school.  Since Leslie and I’s heart is to help children at risk, and we as two people can help only a limited amount of children, I get excited about running this school where we will train and equip people who will be rescuers of children and people who will speak out for those who are unable to speak out for themselves.  One of the toughest parts of working with children at risk is the sheer overwhelming numbers of them in horrible, desperate situations.  The more people we make aware and motivate to get out there and do something the more of these children we can reach.

God has given Leslie and I a heart for children.  We want to see them be able to live the lives that God intended for them – with a family, a place where they can feel safe and loved, where they can be free to be the children that they are.  The Bible is full of scriptures that talk about how much God cares for the orphan, widows and poor.  The two greatest commandments are to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength and love your neighbor as yourself.  James 1:27 says, “Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.”  In this amazing scripture I think “the world corrupting” means you become so caught up in your own needs, so self focused, that you no longer see the lost, hurting, dying people all around you.  The fact is Cain was wrong – we are our brothers keeper.

The children at risk school embraces this fact.  People come to this school with their eyes wide open to the needs and they want to be better equipped to more effectively reach these hurting kids out there.  Our goal is to see that this happens.  We are bringing in speakers for the 12 week lecture phase speaking on a wide range of topics concerning at risk children to give these students a greater understanding and the confidence to know they can make a difference.

We also know that there is a spiritual realm and a battle surrounding these children and so we appreciate your prayers in this planning process so that this school will be successful.  Thanks and God bless,

-Scott
